Johnny B Johnson was born on February 17, 1920 near Rison Arkansas. His formal education began at Humble Hope, a one-room school south of Rison.
He later transferred to the Rison School for Colored from which he received his high school diploma in 1941. He enrolled into Arkansas AM and N College in 1941 however, his college journey was interrupted upon being drafted into the United States Army. He returned to Arkansas AM and N once he completed his military service. He graduated from Arkansas AM and N in 1947. He completed further education at Michigan State University and The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Education was Dr. Johnson’s chosen profession. Dr. Johnson’s entire career was devoted to service at Arkansas AM and N College and The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Dr. Johnson served many leadership positions during his career which included Veteran Appraiser, Dean of Men, Professor, Coordinator of Graduate Studies, Interim Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs/Provost. The Johnny B Johnson Dormitory Complex at The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is named in his honor.
